Literacy homework due Friday, 9th December

Literacy homework due Friday, 9th December

Next week we will be writing a report about a dinosaur. You are not to write the report for homework.

Your task this week is to find out information about a dinosaur of your choice. You must gather information that you can include in your report, such as:

  • where they lived
  • when they lived
  • what they ate
  • what they looked like
  • any interesting or unusual facts
You may find these websites useful. Please ask for a parent's permission before using the internet.

This homework is due in on Friday but the information will be very useful throughout the week so it might be a good idea to do it a bit earlier.

  3. Facts about Dinosaurs

Pteranodon were massive flying reptiles that lived near the coast, and probably fed on creatures that lived in the sea, such as fish and squid. Pteranodon's wings were as long as 35 feet (10.5m) from tip to tip, making it as large as a hang glider. This reptile was not a dinosaur, but lived during the same time period. Pteranodon had a long head crest that was probably used to help counter balance the weight of its massive beak.

    Pteranodon lived in North America.
Pteranodon lived for 75,000,000 Years ago.
Pteranodon eats Fish, squid, small oceanic animals.
    Pteranodon was assigned to Pterosauria.

  6. Velociraptor's tail was made of hard, fused bones that made it very inflexible. While not useful as a weapon, Velociraptor's tail was very important in keeping the animal balanced as it hunted, ran and jumped. Velociraptor is probably one of the most famous dinosaurs that has ever lived. It achieved this fame because of a movie in the early 1990s titled "Jurassic Park." It was green in colour, small in size and it lived in the nearest period to human.

  7. We have seen some brilliant research this week and it has been very helpful for writing our non-chronological reports. Well done, Mr Goddard.

  8. The Velociraptor
Velociraptor is one of the most bird-like dinosaurs ever discovered. It lived approximately 75 million years ago. Velociraptor means speedy thief. It was small and fast, and the sickle-shaped claw on the each foot was likely used to kill its prey.

Velociraptor survived on mostly small animals such as reptiles, and slower and smaller dinosaurs.

Velociraptor have been discovered in Mongolia and northern china.

The velociraptors played a large role in the Jurassic park movies but was often shown inaccurately rather than being a larger human sized dinosaur. The velociraptor was around the size of a turkey it is also believed to have had feathers that were not shown in the movie.

Length: up to 6.8 feet (2 meters)
    Height: 1.6 ft(0.5 m) at the hips
Weight: Up to 33 pounds (15 kg)
